COLTER BAY CANOE
The Colter Bay Canoe’s hull is built using a wood strip/composite construction method. The hull strips are Western Red Cedar with Alaskan White Cedar accents. These strips are covered with fiberglass and three coats of epoxy both inside and out. The gunwales and seats are made from Ash. The combination of woods and epoxy results in each canoe having a unique appearance.

This canoe was designed and built to meet the requirements of The American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) standard H-29. Along with other requirements, this standard requires flotation be provided to keep the canoe from completely submerging when it is filled with water and passengers are clinging to it.
This canoe has flotation foam in both a bow and stern cavity providing extra buoyancy in case of swamping and gives the canoe its unique appearance (Design Protected 2007, Snake River Wooden Boats, Incorporated).

Specifications
The Colter Bay Canoe has a flat bottom symmetrical hull with shallow-arch bilge and tumblehome sides. This canoe has little rocker with most uplift occurring at the stems. The Colter Bay Canoe is designed for recreational use in lakes, ponds, etc. and slow moving rivers.
The raised bow and stern flotation cavities, plus the 15” depth tend to make this canoe more susceptible to wind actions.
